The Koprivnica-Krizevci County, in Croatia, has strengthened its electric mobility infrastructure with the installation of four new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of the RuralMED Mobility project.
The pilot action, implemented by Koprivnica-Križevci County with the technical support of the Regional Energy Agency North, aims to improve access to charging infrastructure in rural areas where such facilities remain limited. By increasing the availability of charging points, the initiative seeks to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce one of the main barriers to their use in rural territories.
The new charging stations have been installed in the municipalities of Gola, Ferdinandovac, Kalnik and Gornja Rijeka, covering different territorial contexts within the county. Some locations support cross-border and tourism mobility, while others represent typical rural environments where the project will assess how electric mobility solutions can be successfully introduced in sparsely populated areas.
Each site is equipped with AC charging stations with a power output of up to 22 kW, allowing efficient charging for a wide range of electric vehicles. To further promote the uptake of sustainable mobility, charging will be free of charge for citizens, making electric mobility more accessible for local communities.
With the installation now completed and the charging stations entering service, the Croatian pilot will also provide valuable insights on infrastructure use through the monitoring platform, charging behaviour and the integration of EV charging in rural mobility systems. The experience gathered will support local and regional authorities in planning future investments and policies for sustainable transport.
This initiative contributes to the broader objectives of the RuralMED Mobility project, which supports Mediterranean regions in testing and deploying practical electric mobility solutions adapted to rural and remote areas.
